Introducing Dawgs in Motion Training Team:
Maddie Crislip joined Dawgs in Motion in January 2009. She has received
her certification from the Animal Behavior College’s (ABC) course for dog
trainers. She has also worked with the Wisconsin Humane Society as her
practical part of the course. Maddie has shadowed under Kim Totsch for
additional experience. Maddie also participates in workshops and seminars to
continue her education, along with reading many books suggested by her
networking groups.
Andrew Burns resides in Milwaukee with his wife Joanne and son Nathan.
Andrew has a partner, Drew, a Golden Retriever that works with him during his
training classes. Andrew has had past pets - Red, Lightning, Tasha and Collen
the rabbit. Andrew has been part of the
Dawgs in Motion family since December 2010. He is the Hunting/Retrieving
trainer along with teaching Obedience and the in-home training classes.
He says he loves every aspect of Dawgs in Motion and what he is able to do
for the dogs. Dogs are Andrew’s true passion in life. He really likes observing
dog behavior and putting all the pieces together to figure out what is going on and
what to do to fix the situations. Other interests that he has are hunting, camping,
fishing, and spending time with his family. His favorite training class is the
Hunting/Retrieving class. Andrew and Drew together have won many awards in
Hunting field trials. They are presently working and preparing for another
competition that is coming up very soon.
Heather Miller graduated in 1998 from Niagara County Community College in
Animal Management and completed an Internship at Buffalo Zoological Gardens
in Buffalo, NY. Heather joined Dawgs in Motion in February 2010. She is
currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Dog Training Course. She has 3 years
experience with the Ozaukee County 4-H Dog Project and has her dog’s place in
the top three, each year in the Obedience class. She owns working dogs and
has just completed the certification in Basic Mantrailing through and is a member
of the American Mantrailing Academy.
Katie Lorge has very recently joined Dawgs in Motion. She is presently
enrolled in the Penn Foster Dog Training Course and works well with all of our
day camp dog customers. She is shadowing our trainers to gain more
experience while completing her training course. She has a dog of her own and
has also gained dog experience through other previous employment.
Katy Paape has been teaching Agility at Dawgs in Motion for greater than 1
year. She really loves agility and has learned well under Kathi Schwengel. Katy
has finally meshed with her parents dog, Princess. Working with Princess has
taught Katy a lot about working together with your dog. They now make a great
team.
Steve Gannaway has been part of our training program and works with the
Flyball and the Agility. The dog that he works with for Agility is Quinn, owned by
Kathi Schwengel. They have bonded and make a great team.
Kathi Schwengel has owned some sort of herding dog or herding dog cross
since she was a child and wanted to own a dog just like Lassie. In the late ‘80’s
she found Australian Shepherds and has had them ever since. Over the years,
Kathi has trained and trained her dogs in herding, confirmation, obedience, and
agility and has handled dogs for other people as well. She has been helping
people train their dogs for over ten years. Kathi takes a positive and fun
approach to teaching agility, building on a solid foundation of basic skills and
simple games to motivate and build confidence in even the most cautious dog.
